I will never forget the rocky film 4 when Adrian says to Rocky as he is about to fight the Russian. I cried when she said the words “YOU CANT WIN” that’s what the world would have me believe sat in this room in isolation. This is now day 4 and day 5 is approaching. The strength I am getting from the Cancer stories is amazing, and amazing how much strength others are getting from it to. You to could be part of it as this cruel bone marrow transplant takes place.

I remember as a small boy, I really wanted a bike but I was only 4. My prayer to God was “I believe I will get a bike thank you God for my bike” I got that bike with solid tyres a few days later. Another prayer I prayed was “Lord I know why you made the blackberries they taste great, but I don’t understand why you made the prickles. Life is like that isn’t it. It’s full of prickles, but also beauty and it’s down to us to look past the Prickles and see the good in every aspect of life.
I Will beat this, why. Because I want to win, and I have an army behind me called Cancer stories on Facebook, and an army of people praying for me all around the world. These people are all winners, people that believe in human kindness and stay away from negativity. We are warriors, encourages, and all these things bring freedom and success. Make that step in any situation it’s so much easier to make the next. We just gotta have faith and step forward.

That was a small part I wrote in hospital on day 4 May 19th  2015

Today is 21st Feb 2016 that means I have written everyday now for 9 months, it was interesting reading what I had written back then. I was in a dangerous place, I had no idea though how many people wanted me to win the fight, I felt proud to have the few on my side that there were. But I went in to see Christine and Ian at the fruit and veg shop on Coe lane yesterday. As they spoke to me celebrating my triumph against cancer, she told me how they had first come to hear about me. She went on to say how my mum had gone in there and asked if they would pray for me, asked that they would pray for me to be healed. That is in my eyes “faith” because the bible says “faith without works is dead” in other words. There has to be an action that goes with faith.

This post is to say THANK YOU.  For praying for me, for asking people to pray for me, for encouraging me and many others on cancerstories. Thank you for believing that God would hear your prayers. Thank you for believing my life is for a reason and has a purpose.

This post is for you, because you are who you are. No one wants you to change, you were made the way you are. Be amazed that you have life, we won’t always understand why there are prickles in our lives. But the blackberries taste wonderful when they are ripe. But you don’t get them without the prickles.

Have a great day and thank you for being you

So how did I come to have this amazingly tasty carrot cake in my kitchen. Well it’s quite a story as to how it got there really starting with my old school friend Daniel Clyedburn. You see if it was not for Danny there would be no carrot cake in my kitchen even though he did not make it it’s because of him it’s there. You see Danny made a phone call to someone called Aasma day, Aasma works at the LEP (Lancashire evening post) he called her up to say that he had a friend who had beaten cancer twice and maybe she may like to run a story on him. So that men would be encouraged to get their butts to the doctors on finding a lump. That because He did this He was still alive and his friend owed his life to the NHS and the medicine that was given to him, in the form of  chemothearopy.

The next step in the chain that led to my carrot cake was a photographer coming to his friends house and photographing him and his wife along with his dog Faith. They ran the story both on the Internet and in the actual LEP. You can read the article here.

http://www.lep.co.uk/news/community/cancer-fighter-mark-beats-disease-twice-despite-delayed-diagnosis-1-7481482

In running the article, Aasma kindly agreed to put the link to his friends cancer support group, and also his friends blog address. This is where the chain of events led to my carrot cake finding its way to my kitchen. You see, in wanting to help other people and desiring to give hope to mankind, and because Danny told Aasma day about his friend. Some people in the surrounding area joined the cancer stories support group, that is there for people to lean on each other because of their own journeies. One of those people lived in the friends village, another lived in a near by city called Preston. Together as man and wife they talked and were encouraged, because of cancer stories which may (if I can be so bold) have contributed to saving someone’s life.

Of course you know who Danny’s friend is, because the person who made my amazing carrot cake is called Anne and she read the article in the LEP and joined our group along with her husband Dave. Such special people who came to my house yesterday for a coffee and a slice of carrot cake that she had made for me, Danny’s friend from school. It’s a chain of human kindness that led to me and my wife being able to enjoy this special gift given to us because of Danny. So tonight we will be sat by the open fire listening to the rain pounding the Windows nice and warm with a slice of cake washed down with a glass of red. Thanks Anne, Aasma, and Danny. Maybe there will be some left for you when I see you on Saturday Danny.

Keep encouraging everyone, it’s the best thing in the world to give a little human kindness to someone. Have a great night.

Not even a look.

Not even a look.
We were at a location where Syrians had set up a camp just outside of our resort. Frightening to think there is poverty like that in the world. There were many walking up and down with signs written in the native language. At first I was afraid not knowing what would come of it, as looking on the news there seemed to have been issues. Non of the Turkish people seemed bothered. But as I saw them more and more I decided to look them in the eye.

Many people just ignored them including me, how shameful to not even wish them well. When I did look at the man in the suit jacket wearing a red scalf hat and a full face of hair, carrying his daughter. His wife in toe. My heart was filled with compassion and even found myself able to relate to his plight having faced serious situations myself fighting cancer.

I knew just by his eyes that he was desperate, he was not trying to gain money. Just to survive, to keep his family safe. Reaching into my pocket, I dragged out a couple of notes knowing he would at least be able to eat that night. I felt warmth from him as our eyes met. You could see his sincerity. People all have blood running though their veins no one chooses where they are born. But we choose how to treat them. It does not always need to be about money.

One thing is for sure though, I know I will remember the look on his face. A look of kindness can mean so much yet is overlooked on many occasions. But for me, to make a person feel good is not only free and a blessing. It’s needed to feel that compassion.

Have a great day and I hope you choose to give that look in the eye.
